@pob751 hi there I have been using Energizer Rechargeable 1300mAh which seem fine, also the standard Philips Extra Life + batteries seem to work for a fair amount of time hope thats helpful

@BoxerDogTales which rechargeables do you use? we have the leapfrog explorer and started using rechargeables but they didn't seem to work correctly and we decided that it was because they weren't the correct Mh number

Leapfrog is notorious for rushing shoddy products to market. Look at the review (side by side comparison of the V-Tech pad. The Leapad is much worse where it counts, in the actual applications, and writing recognition. Leap Frog also has a history of poor customer service, and dropping products if they don't sell as well as hoped. Check out the V-Tech pad before purchasing either.
