Classic arcade game
A vertically scrolling shoot-em-up set in the Wild West, in which the player takes the role of a Billy; a young Sheriff charged with hunting down and killing a number of infamous 'Wanted' outlaws.
Each level is packed with gun-toting bandits and the Sheriff must shoot his way through the stage, before finally taking on the wanted outlaw 'boss' character at the end. Each outlaw wields a special weapon unique to them, such as a Winchester rifle, knives, darts or boomerangs.
Shooting the barrels that litter the levels reveals power-ups such as boots (for extra speed), rifles (for increased range) and bullets (for rapid fire). The game's 3 directional fire buttons (for firing left, right or ahead) can be combined (pressed Simultaneously) to create a total of 8 different firing directions.

Gun.Smoke is not based on the old famous T.V. series of the same name, the first TV broadcast was on 10th September 1955, and it ran until 31st March 1975. A total of 633 episodes were aired over the 20 seasons - only the last nine seasons being made in colour.

Jaime Guzman holds the official record for this game with 1, 465, 250 points.

Alfa Records released a limited-edition soundtrack album for this game (Capcom Game Music - 28XA-94) on 25/08/1986.

CHARACTERS (source wikipedia) :
Billy Bob The hero of the game. He is the bounty hunter that is after 10 of the most dangerous men in the west. He is armed with two revolvers, and wears a 10 gallon hat, a blue shirt, white vest and jeans.
Master, Winchester Round 1 boss. He is said to be fast with a rifle, AKA a winchester. He wears a hat with a blue scarf, a blue shirt, and brown overalls. Master shoots while standing up but, if he is hit he crawls on the ground to avoid Billy's shots. $10,000

Another bit of trivia:

This game was designed by Yoshiki Okamoto, who created many arcade classics for both Konami (Time Pilot, Gyruss, etc.) and Capcom (1942, Gun Smoke, Street Fighter, Final Fight, Street Fighter II, etc.). He also helped produce the original Resident Evil game, and also produced the first two Resident Evil movies.

@ego78th Yes quite similar to commando, but it's a newer and more advanced game. In Gun.Smoke you control character differently, you can pick up items that improve performance and offer better protection (horse up to three hits). Finally, Gun.Smoke has better graphics. Commando is a good game for it's time, and I used to play it a lot.

Ahhh, EVIL#2.

Capcom had TWO games designed by Satan to torment kids with a small allowance in the mid 80s.

One was Ghosts n Goblins, the other was Gunsmoke.

These games would humiliate you on the first screen!
