In the 70s I was asked by a DJ to play some music while he took a break . I played THIS song and almost everyone never liked it. My friend could not understand it because they all knew me as an authority on music. I just shrugged my shoulders and walked off. Some three months later, at another party, a group came to me challenging me about a song on a Chilites album. When I showed them the B side of Homely Girl they remembered that it was the same song that they had not wanted to hear.

I was 18 when this record came out. We went 2 a soul dance every Sunday at a place called Great Georges "The Blackie" (on account of the dirt on the buillding). We came from Toxteth L8, Liverpool+we would have 2 fight skinheads 2 get 2 China town L1 where the dance was held. They used 2project different films such as the "Last Samurai" on2 1 of the walls while we danced 2music such as The Chi-Lites. Great 2hear their music again+good 2know their r ppl still listening 2 this. Oh 2b young again!

As God is my witness, I will never, ever get tired of savoring the voice of the late Eugene Record........without debate, one of the most outstanding male vocalists in the entire history of R&B/POP music. It's almost criminal, (and somewhat tragic), how an individual who possessed the God-given talent that Mr. Record did, could be so unrecognized & under-appreciated. It would have been nice if he could have received the recognition, respect & love he deserved while he was alive to accept it.

A melancholy tune that tells a story of a man who now thinks twice about his divorce. Eugene Record was an extremely talented, underrated songwriter with his own unique style. This type of music tugs at your heart even years after you 've heard it.
Its shame there don't make music like this anymore... I agree with you Dviaries great memories... I was 16 in 1973 when this song hit the scene back in JA.
