Also, The instrumental "To One Far Away" from DBTO, and you will hear compositions filled with stunningly beautiful melodies — some simple, others incredibly intricate. The melodic sense carries over into his lead style. His solos are also done spontaneously-not written out beforehand like Shermann's —which makes it even more amazing. Songs like "Into the Coven" and "Melissa" — often feature beautiful melodic themes.

Melodic sense at the genius-level. I don't toss the term genius around much, but it applies here. Denner is one of the most melodic players you will ever hear. He is simply on a higher level than everyone else when it comes to melody. Sure, Wead may be a better technician, but Michael can weave many great melodies together in the context of one song. Listen to to Denner's outro solo on "Black Horsemen"-godlike-pure emotion and straight from the heart.

Actually if you knew anything about playing guitar you'd know wead is a superior player at least when considering lead. Denner is so-so but sherman rocks, so does wead.

Satan's fall ROX!

I agree with you. Denner/Shermann was a unique duo. Plus Andy LaRocque and we got 3 best and most creative guitarists ever!
Amen, friend. Mike's outro solo from 'Black Horsemen' is arguably the most beautiful one in the entire King Diamond discography.

His lead work is also incredibly melodic, even when he's blazing away at top speed-for example his solos in "Lurking in the Dark" or "The Oath." It always boggles my mind — how many ideas and melodies Michael hears in his head. To me, Denner is on the same level as Michael Schenker-and yes I have been playing guitar for 30 years! I used to teach-everything from cycle of fourth arpeggios, harmonic minor scales, diminished scales......the list goes on.
