Abrams Verdict: Siegelman Released From Jail

Dan Abrams talks to Artur Davis and Scott Horton about the release of Don Siegelman from prison tonight, and recaps some of his coverage on the story. Now will justice be served to Karl Rove for his role in this? I hope so but I'm not holding my breath. Sadly as long as George Bush has a pardon pen in his hand there's no use in trying to convict him now anyway since Dubya will let him walk if he's found guilty.

They are. That was Representative Artur Davis (D-AL) who is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, being interviewed at length by Abrams. Those of us pushing for impeachment are having to settle for a slower process, but hopefully it will be more thorough and catch ALL the slimeballs, including Rove.

If this winds up with Siegelman's conviction being reversed and with evidence of Rove's corrupt interference...Siegelman should be made governor again and Rove, if found guilty; should spend the rest of his life in the general population of a federal prison.

The Republicans currently in charge in the state of Alabama are running the place as if it were a Third World banana republic.

Gov. Siegelman himself told me from his federal prison cell that "Karl Rove's fingerprints are all over" the politically motivated "taking out" of the popular Siegelman, the most successful Democrat in Alabama.

He's only been released pending appeal, the charges have not been dropped. He could very well go back if the appeals court upholds the lower court decision.

The government had long walked the line of legality, but the Huston Plan was the first comprehensive document, to detail systematic tactics which were way outside of the law. They included arson, burglary, illegal domestic spying, the creation of internment camps to confine members of the anti-war movement, misuse of federal agencies (IRS) to go after their 'enemies' (real or imagined).
