~suke is a leftover ending in naming hierarchy but still used typically in Japanese names. The meaning is quaint now. I guess you could think of it as resonating his name and not just the color in this case. Though I think just Kuro could be acceptable name for a cat too, taking note ~suke it is ending for a male name.
