8V53N...VERY rare, most went to the military. A few were in Crown coaches owned by Embree Buses in Pasadena, CA. 6V53s are common by comparison.

@lHustonProductionsl That is because it's a two stroke. So it's actually running about half as fast as it sounds.

@ipodsrdabest That is true of the gasoline one or two stroke engines such as are on weed-eaters, and some motorcycles. These Detroit Diesels, however have the bottom end sealed off from the intake so they require a supercharger of some type to run. The will idle without one, but to make any power, the supercharger pressurizes the intake and when the inlet hole come uported, the pressurized air is blown into the cylinder, then a fuel injector sprays fuel like any other diesel during compression.
