I recorded this at my house in south east TN. On a Icom-R7000 with a angle linear amp. 50ft of rg-6 and 30ft telescopic pole with a scantena on top. times to listen :42- 1:11 - 1:54 - 2:35 from 2007
Another reason aircraft use AM is that to convert to FM or P25 for that matter is that it would be very expensive to convert all aircraft to a different modulation mode sine AM has been the primary mode since the second world war. A time when AM was the pimary mode on VHF.Unlike the RCMP which are presently trasitioning to an encrypted [sic]P25 mode there has never been a need for aircraft to upgrade their communication system.
@QuincyCHL "But the main reason to use AM on aircraft band on VHF or UHF is reduce the distortion produce of dooppler [sic] effect."
Negative. It is to avoid the inherent 'capture' effect FM has on a stronger signal over a weaker signal. With AM, there is no 'capture' effect and both comms will be heard (although the weak one will still be weak, but still there using AM).
@QuincyCHL negative there old trout! they use 144.900 and others in the ham band when talkin to our guys on FM and we all use the doppler effect to match up with them as they come towards and go away from our stations

On HAM radio band they use FM because almost nobody have 2 meters band equipment with AM. And have to correct the doppler effect manualy.
