  • Another reason aircraft use AM is that to convert to FM or P25 for that matter is that it would be very expensive to convert all aircraft to a different modulation mode sine AM has been the primary mode since the second world war. A time when AM was the pimary mode on VHF.Unlike the RCMP which are presently trasitioning to an encrypted [sic]P25 mode there has never been a need for aircraft to upgrade their communication system.

  • @QuincyCHL "But the main reason to use AM on aircraft band on VHF or UHF is reduce the distortion produce of dooppler [sic] effect."

Negative. It is to avoid the inherent 'capture' effect FM has on a stronger signal over a weaker signal. With AM, there is no 'capture' effect and both comms will be heard (although the weak one will still be weak, but still there using AM).

Look it up, don't take my word for it!!!!!!

    .

  • On HAM radio band they use FM because almost nobody have 2 meters band equipment with AM. And have to correct the doppler effect manualy.

But the main reason to use AM on aircraft band on VHF or UHF is reduce the distortion produce of dooppler effect.

  • @QuincyCHL negative there old trout! they use 144.900 and others in the ham band when talkin to our guys on FM and we all use the doppler effect to match up with them as they come towards and go away from our stations

  • VERY IMPRESSIVE!

  • Cool to hear it just before the actual NASA retransmission in the background.

  • What antenna did you use please? Did you have a tuner in line? Thanks.

  • lol, maybe when you'll grow up a little more.... :))

  • Wow awesome. I got a radio that will go to this freq. I'm standing by listening.
