I always imagine that at 2:51 they were holding hands. It's sort of a symbol that everything will be alright because they have each other.

That's the beauty of the film. They run away from everything and everyone, they only have each other... No help from anybody. Not even from themselves. Yeah, they love each other enough to run away from a marriage, but do they love each other enough to stay with together for the rest of their lives? Throughout the film, you can see that they won't. It's a plan made to fail. That's why this scene is so amazing, all these emotions in one take... Add Sound Of Silence and you can make me cry :p

I believe that they do. Forming into a relationship without the support of parents and not having a structure to how to live in the future can be difficult-- that's the scary part for love birds.

Although, I think Ben's parents might be supportive. But I'm sure they might be saddened to lose friendship with the other Robinsons.
