Why and How to Sew With a Scant 1/4" Quilt Seam, Marci Baker of Alicia's Attic

I agree, the Q Tools strips are really helpful. My first sewing machine was a lovely machine and I still use it for free motion, but it had wide feed dogs, which meant that (when using centre needle position and the straight stitch plate) one side of the fabric was not completely on the feed dogs, and that made it very hard to avoid "swinging", or narrowing of the seam at the start and stop of a piece. If you have this problem, the Q tools really helps keep that fabric steady ie for long strips.

Oh man, I am so grateful for finding this video. I recently learned that I wasn't using a quarter inch seam allowance and there was no easy way to do it using the guidelines. Thank you for posting such a useful video! It was a lifesaver!

handy dandy....a portion of a post-it pad works too, and comes off cleanly too. Maybe 8 or 10 sheets. Ive also cut a chunk of painter's tape off the roll with an xacto.

Finally someone has explained this to me so I understand it. Thank you! I'm going to buy my Q-tool tomorrow!

I bought the Q-Tools Sewing Edge, and I just love them! I'm new to quilting and this product is so simple to use and has helped me turn out accurate seams time and time again.
Marci - thanks for your wonderful videos, they are extremely helpful!

Thank you for teaching this. I only learned about the scant 1/2 inch recently & wasn't sure how to really make the setting accurate. Does Q-tools sell a square or rectangle with the same groove on the back? The close-ups really help! Thanks
In response to sideways586- Those methods do work in a pinch. I still want Sewing Edge because it stays on better than these and does not have adhesive on the edge which catches the fabric. Be sure to cut the piece small enough so that all edges are against the surface with no place where lint can collect. If there is a gap or any place that the adhesive is exposed, it will be coming off because it continues to collect lint. We had one person test the product and one lasted her 8 months.
