@Coltsfan do not insult other people's languages. It backfires on you.

I love you!!!! China..forever!!!

@Ilikelink lol well like Chinese, I think English is a beautiful language and should stay the way it is.
-
@Coltsfan Actually I think simplifying English spelling would be an excellent idea, even though if someone tried it many native English speakers would certainly complain as well, because they would argue that so much ancient culture lies in their illogical spelling!
-
@Ilikelink Yes, I am Taiwanese, but I am fluent in Japanese and I can tell you that their character simplification is something I can support. I mentioned that some characters need to be cut down; their process was infinitely more reasonable than what the Communists did. Of the 3K-4K characters that you need to be fluent, I'd say they cut less than 200, maybe less than 100. In response, I'd say that English is too complex. Instead of "laugh," lets make it "laf," and turn "because" to "bcoz."
-
@Coltsfan Furthermore, remember that simplifyng the characters is not necessarily a "communist" thing. Even before Mao Zedong took power, many Chinese intellectuals wanted to simplify the writing system, and not all of them were Communists. Even the Japanese have simplified the Chinese characters which they use by the way, although their simplification system is different. The truth is that the old characters are impractically complicated and difficult to learn. Are you Taiwanese by any chance?
-
@Coltsfan hi. I hope you don't mind if I reply in English. I am learning Chinese and I currently live in Beijing, but I still find it difficult to express myself in Chinese on such a difficult topic. I don't see why simplifying the characters means losing China's traditional culture. As long as the basic language and writing system remains the same, does it matter if the radicals which make up the characters are simplified a bit?

@961816ronald Simplifying Chinese was a necessity for the sake of universal literacy. Even with simplified Chinese, it takes Chinese people years and years to learn all the characters they need. With traditional Chinese it is even worse. Try learning to write 體 instead of 体! Plus, when you look at a web page in traditional characters you need to enlarge the writing a lot to even be able to read it.
