This video addresses the topic of Genetics, Sociology and Human behavior. What determines human personality and behavior? I assert that Genetics play a very large role in determining who we are; in the exact same way that Genetics determines our physical characteristics. If you have blue eyes or blond hair, it's because of genes; same goes for certain personality traits and human behaviors. Behavior is passed down through genetics in the same way that eye-color is. This is a observable scientific fact.

  • It's not the gene alone though. I think you are not giving the environment enough look. Environment and genetics work together, even though you have expressed that you understand this, your way of looking at human behaviour seems way to categorised. I would rather listen to a video of you talking about how genetics and environment shape our behaviour, because it is not just our genes. I have little doubt you could verify conclusively that genetics is 'primary' to how we behave.

  • @dancoulsdan, I agree with what you're saying completely. I do think that genes play a massive role in shaping human behavior - however - it is environment that shapes and "creates" specific genes in the first place! It's a "catch 22" sort of thing. Our genes adapt to our environment, that's primary - genes are the shaped by the environment like mountains are shaped by wind and rain.

  • Trying to explain genetic predisposition to Liberals is like talking to a wall. They've been taught over and over again that we are all equal, and that who we are is a result of our environment. This egalitarian ideology exists only as a means to end racism. Much of the world isn't ready to accept the fact that we are not all equal, and that some races are more likely to possess certain traits than others. I'm scared the truth will be lost to political agendas.

  • Yep! My thoughts exactly, I'm glad you mentioned this because it's a very good point. Thanks 4 commenting..

  • Before this I watched your video "Marx, Darwin and the myth of human nature" which I find exquiste but which does look at least a bit contradictory whit this?

  • There are a host of issues both biological and environmental that form human behavior. I think if we really were to pursue the grounds of how certain traits, behavioral types, schemas were/are somehow undesirable we would be touching upon eugenics. It's been my observation that psychosis is fairly rampant throughout our civilization, as compared to tribal societies where they haven't the distractions we have.

  • what i don't understand is why people think that if gay is an enviromental factor and don't believe in the gay gene is why they think this automatically translates to personal responsibility on behalf of the gay individual. a child can no less control it's enviroment than it can it's genes. Even if the gay gene is a result of being turned on or off based on enviromental factors. Why is that relevent? it's relevent because they want to blame the queer. sorry, it doesn't matter which.

  • Epigenetics...enviroment INFUENCES Genetics, certain enviromental factors can turn on or off certain genes.

  • I favor nurture over nature. Enviroment plays a much bigger role in human behavior than genetics personally.

  • Then he said that genetics only contributed 10% lmao to behavior hahHaha I told that I didn't know an exact number but that it was def. More t th an 10%

  • dude I agree with u 100! I absolutely love human behavior and I think its the nature vs nurture scenario. My psychology teacher was explaining the cause of behavior and he said that it was all cultural for one hour! I was waiting for him to mention genetics and he didn't so I said about genetics. He said that the question caught him off guard that he hadn't thought about genetics before lol wth

  • What if this gay gene was the bodies way of adapting to cultural conditioning.

  • Another point, you say we can't control our behavior cause of genetics. So say someone is an alcoholic that beats his wife he has a family history of it and concludes its genetics thus he feels he is cursed with this and theirs nothing he can do, nevermind the fact that millions of people have gotten treatment for their disorders and are able to control and change their behavior by quitting true they may strugle but,They are living proof that the human-will can trump genetic predispositions

  • Alot of us have a problem with the idea that genetics is the MAIN contributor to personallity, in a nut shell to take that message to heart 100% is very disempowering to the human psyhce. If people truly believe they have no control over thier behavior and parts of their personality then they are more prone to not examine why they were upset or how things got that way in the first place. The possible psychological cause could never be address and thus they will never try to change it
