@SandyWEllingson Did you set up your Google contacts before syncing? That's the only issue I see happening. You would need to go to your Gmail and set up the Contact list firsthand. The idea behind that is so your Contacts resides on your Google account and not on your phone. Besides that, maybe double-checking the info you're putting in: email and password. Server should say "m.google.com". Let me know how it turns out!

Note: Setup your gmail account you want to use first and sync contacts before setting up any other accounts. I had iCloud and a secondary acct on as well and couldn't get any contact to sync. Removed all and completed sync of primary acct first and that worked.
