The City of Norfolk, Virginia is home to the world's largest naval base. It is also home of the Cargo ship line Maersk who's ship the Alabama was taken over by Somali pirates in April of 2009 briefly, resulting in taking the Alabama's Captain hostage aboard a lifeboat. The USS Bainbridge arrived on scene and a Navy Seal team were able to shoot the pirates and free Captain Richard Phillips The newest exhibit at Nauticus is guaranteed to delight anyone with an interest in all things piratical. Real Pirates features true stories of the golden age of piracy. Its vastly different than what Hollywood has told us. Real Pirates will remain on display at Nauticus until April 4th.
