Fishing in Alaska is in its developing stages. So far the runs are slow and the Anchor River is now closed since not enough fish have crossed the Wiers in that river. The Kenai is starting to develop with over 2000 kings so far, but slightly behind last year.
The Kasilof has been producing quite a few fish, and live bait is currently allowed only on the Kasilor... but then if you are not familiar with Alaska Regs, Read them, reread them, then ask someone to make sure since Alaska has the most regulated fisheries in the nation.

  • The red salmon runs are doing really well now. That is good news after the dismal early return on Early run King Salmon.

Late Run kings are ahead of the average for the last 2 years, but the river is up and dirty so fishing has been spotty from day to day.

  • reading about low fish counts right up the west coast with lots of fisheries closures. not looking good for some spots where it should be peaking now. (july).

  • keep living the dream.
