i dont think whatever happened happened because just like you said the others came and took over the barracks in the 90's or whatever UNLESS when we seen the others take over which was presented in season 4 it was in another TIME period which wasnt told in the show!!!

When Ben purged the dharma peeps maybe it was in the future or past hmmmmm...... What do you think???? Lost is VERY crazy and i wouldnt put it past the writers !!!!!!

yeh actually thats a fair point and the other plane wouldnt have needed to have crashed,

but i still think that if they do stop the incident and stop the plane from crashing, somehow the island will bring them back

Charlie, Rousseau, Faraday, Alex, Boone, Charlotte, Michael, Mr Eko, Ana Lucia, the blonde chick in love with Hurley (I don´t remember her name), AND PLENTY MORE WOULD BE ALIVE.

and there is also the whole notion of destiny, how they were all drawn to the island etc so say they do change the future, it may be likely that the island just draws them straight back to the island again some other way.

just read an interesting post by ScarlettStreet, which identified how the lives probably will turn out for the losties if they dont crash:

kate: jail, Jack: depressed, Charlie: heroin, Sawyer: who knows probably depressed, Aaron: adopted, Locke: paralysed, Rose: cancer, Faraday: mental issues, vincent: not getting to roam the island with smokey, desmond would never have found penny again, i cant think of any more, but the island benefited each of the characters
