@brucebut1 Happy Days! The showcases were the first such events in Liverpool since the early 70s. They're all over the place now and the players are really good too.
The Northern Song Project did a lot of good work for a lot of players who had never been treated well by venues or promoted.
The NSP put players on a stage with a great PA and lighting, promoted them and gave them a spot to play their best original compositions. It was their show, not mine. The rest is history.
Beautiful sound with real soul. Are you the same Gerry Murphy who worked with keyboardist Don Shinn? If so, can you provide some details, either here or via a private message? Much appreciated....and rock on.
Gerry was our tour guide for a student travel group that I chaperoned about 12 or so years ago. He was very entertaining as he would sing a lot on our long bus trips. I was really amazed at his knowledge and his talent. He seemed to me a modern Renaissance Man. I have not seen him play large venues but I am sure it would be worth seeing. I am so glad I found this video!
Hi Gerry, I don't know if you remember me. We were at school together - De La Salle 1973. I was checking out various music clips on Youtube last night and the thought occured to me, "I wonder if Gerry Murphy went on to pursue his career in music." I typed in your name and this video clip came up. Great to know that you're still out there making music. Me? I've been teaching English in Japan since 1990 and I have a Japanese wife. All the best, mate, keep on playing. Bob Jones.
One of the best live performers you will have the pleasure to meet and see playing around Liverpool, great nights in the Grapes, I remember you letting the 2 american tourists sing alongside you in the grapes to a Beatles song, it made their night special, cheers mate great memories.
I attended Gerry's songwriting course at Liverpool Uni a few years ago, I learnt a lot and it helped me ignite the spark for songwriting again, top fella Gerry.
Cheers for getting in touch man. When we met a few months back, you were very modest but this doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Keep posting those songs so that they can be heard
