Ten years ago, Matthew Shepard, a young gay man from Laramie, Wyoming, was brutally killed because of his sexuality. This video is about remembrance. It contains footage from "The Laramie Project" and "Dear Jesse", as well as a cover of Elton John's wonderful song "American Triangle" (with an instrumental from Elton's Café). Rest In Peace, dear Matthew.

  • what a beautifull voice you have ,i know God love us all...this is a battle we cant loose...Matthew Shepard ..this is not the end....

  • @toysgowild Thank you for your comment! :-)

  • Who sings this song? I know originally it is sung by E.J. But here I can hear young voices!

    Very beautiful!

  • Thanks! It's just me singing along with the instrumental piano version. Words cannot express how moved and touched I feel by this song.

  • I had been having writers block for a while and I had never heard of this tragedy before. I am gay and gay fiction is my genre. After learning so much of Matthew I have been able to continue to write. Matthew is my muse. When or if i get my first gay romance novel published I will dedicate it to Matthew Shepard. RIP We Love you Matt :)

  • How wonderful! Another great way to be more creative: read "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. It already did wonders for me!

  • @recordsmanukrnet I don't know who is singing...it sure is not Elton.

  • "Oh, God, WHY?! Why go thru the trouble to bring forth my existence, only to demand my extinction?"

    (Leviticus 20:13)

  • Beautiful song, I found out early on the ignorance/hate toward my gay twin brother. Verbal abuse left him scarred for life (at 6'4" & 200 lbs they never laid a hand on him) I would have gone in attack mode if not for being his twin sister. I lack the words re my appreciation for Elton/Bernie creating this song....

  • Rest In Peace Matthew

  • @tcw5000 Always about love... don't lose hope.

  • My heart swells for you.. thank you, Rest in Peace Mathew Shepard.

  • This is such a beautiful song, beautifully sung here. I first heard it on the soundtrack of THE MATTHEW SHEPARD STORY and it inspired me to read everything I could about Matthew and many other victims of hate crimes. We must never forget them and songs like this help us to remember.

  • "At times your toughness got you by, But deep within Dolphins made you cry. That which you have kept & stored, Can now be given to Your Lord. For in death you are not defeated, At The Right Hand of God, Matthew....go & be seated". this is an excerpt from my poem "Tribute to Ol' Sweetness". I felt a great influence to post this endearing words. I Am on that fence too, Matt, because in my death experience Oct. '92 I was w/God & Christ & christians vehemently hate, despise & persecute me for it.

  • This is heart-wrenching... RIP Matthew... =(

  • i saw today the movie... very sad!

    R.I.P Matthew Shepard!

    :(
