@lollipopfop In this book, when you drink a human's blood, that means more vampires, which is what they're trying to avoid. We also only get Nina's opinion on vampires, which isn't a good one.
I absolutely hate this book. I tried reading it, but a few pages in, I gave up. The premise is so silly. I kept asking myself ; How do they not drink human blood if the alternative is to be ill? If they drank illegal immigrants or runaways no one would go looking for a vampire. They still hide. So what are they gaining? If this were reality Stanford would get killed and replaced by a more capable leader. One thing this story teaches us; Victims are always pathetic by their own choice.
