for sure was a dream listen at this aria with her fresh and jung.here she sounds tired and old.but who cares price at meadle age was imposible to hear the low notes out of position,a hole in the voice ,low chest notes, and some attacks like if she sing spirituals and not an puccini or verdi Aria

I was hoping that this performance was from her pre-Lucia days in the '50s, when her interpretations were more musical and sensitive, her vocalism more clear and lyrical and her diction more distinguishable. That being said, this performance features her classic '70s vocalism with the excellent trill at the end. An interesting performance, but, for me, ultimately unsatisfying.

@AmericanEvita But what about Sutherland's Donna Anna? She and Price are certainly the greatest exponents of the role in the post-war era!

RIP Joan Sutherland thank you for the gift of your voice.

Sutherland, like Leontyne Price, sang Mozart roles early in her career. For me personally Price was outstanding singing Mozart, far better in her style than Sutherland. I don't care for Sutherland's Countess. Too matronly, maybe it was her age at the time of this recording. I'm sure in hear early career and youth she sang a fab Countess but here she sound tired, old and lousy. Sorry. Leontyne Price's Countess is brilliant. I also love Price's Donna Anna

Perfect. This is the way in wich Mozart must be sung.
Did you know that the Countess role was originally going to be Sutherland's farewell to the operatic stage? But then apparently none of the other singers were available so the production never happened. She sang the Countess very early in her career at Covent Garden - I think it would have been an interesting one for her to go out on!

I had no idea!!! I'd have preferred her farewell to be Countess, too bad it never happened :-/
