The Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, widely known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre, were a series of demonstrations led by labor activists, students, and intellectuals in the People's Republic of China (PRC) between April 15 and June 4, 1989. Participants were against the authoritarianism and economic policies of the ruling Chinese Communist Party and voiced calls for democratic reform within the structure of the government. The demonstrations centered on Tiananmen Square in Beijing, but large-scale protests also occurred in cities throughout China. In Beijing, the resulting military crackdown on the protesters by the PRC government left many civilians dead or injured. The reported tolls ranged from 200--300 (PRC government figures), to 300--800 (The New York Times), and to 2,000--3,000 (Chinese student associations and Chinese Red Cross).
Following the violence, the government conducted widespread arrests to suppress protesters and their supporters, cracked down on other protests around China, banned the foreign press from the country and strictly controlled coverage of the events in the PRC press. Members of the Party who had publicly sympathized with the protesters were purged, with several high-ranking members placed under house arrest, such as General Secretary Zhao Ziyang. The violent suppression of the Tiananmen Square protest caused widespread international condemnation of the PRC government.

Today China censores all images and articles regarding the Tiananmen Square protests with an approximate 30,000 internet censors in an attempt to stop further uprisings, and to stop the Fire from spreading.

  • We are long overdue for a revolution here in the US. We were close in the sixties and had the NEOCONS on the ropes..we should have put the foot on the throat and ended their greedy, hypocritical dreams right then. However,we relinquished and a parade of evil men by the names of Nixon,Ford,Reagan and Bush and all of their administrations have, for all intents and purposes, destroyed the working class and made our country into a police state that is worsening by the minute. Yes,Wal-Mart is scum!

  • That was an incredible act of courage by the TankMan.

Tianamen remains as the one of the blackest stains on China's aversion to human rights & intolerance for justifiable rebellion and protest in modern times. Looks like China is attempting to erase the stain, and it looks like they've done it pretty successfully. The U.S. is currently headed down that same path with their surveillance & "policing" of the internet. I believe complete control and censorship of the medium is the ultimate goal.

  • Thank you rage, this is almost our world, we just haven't noticed it yet. It's a shame that we as a people have allowed the world to move in this direction while being entertained by our nightly distractions. Time is short for all of us, and our children.

  • The way you edit, arrange, the music, videos, pictures...everything, you are beyond talent my friend!

    Thanks again my friend.

    Peace.

  • Rage, I don't know where you find this stuff, but you had me in tears with this one (it's crazy at just how much China has become a part of me) - they were so close, but it's closer now than most people'd think. Thank you so much for posting this.

    Peace.

  • if you were intelligent you would sympathize with them and understand that they are a product of the "HOUSE" or the USA if that makes any sense to you.,

  • n June 1989 in China. People and students to fight for democracy and freedom. Against the dictatorship and corruption and dictatorship. Has been the Government to draw large numbers of troops and military vehicles and tanks, machine guns, killing unarmed people and students. Resulted in a large number of students and innocent civilians were massacred. manufacture of bloodshed that shocked the world in June. The Government lied no casualties and missing.

  • I come from China. My Government has always been to deceive the people. Embargo network. Blocking freedom of expression. Shielding the truth

  • Outstanding video! A great history lesson for all of us. We can never be reminded enough of universal and iconic acts of fearlessness from individuals. Moving, emotional, raw. Keep up the great work Rage!

  • I follow this dwarf, because this dwarf adheres to the constitutional ideology of small government and individual liberty. So I wonder how those ideals compare to China? Why would I go to China in the first place, charity starts at home.

  • I think someone following the little dwarf with no plan, other than to knock everyone elses would be the stupid person .Take a trip to china and run your mouth, and tell me all about it.KingSobbRark

  • Calling you stupid would be an insult to stupid people.

  • I make perfect sense to me. You cann't name a dwarf president can you?

  • He was written out of history,by the commies.Like the romans did to jesus

  • What's your pie hole saying ? I can't understand your arguement.

  • Shut the fuck up you fucking sheep. Piece of shit, you're whats wrong with this country. Fuck you sheep.

  • so whatever happened to the guy in front of the tanks?

  • I actually couldn't give a F*CK (anymore) what stupid policies China wants to implement so long as it doesn't affect me where I live (which is outside China -- thank Heaven). Trouble is, they export things like SARS and foodstuffs filled with melamine. Heaven knows what else they'll export in future.

    Me Chinese, me like sh*t,

Me poo-poo in what you eat.
