I think the scroll work looks okay for a first attempt. I agree sometimes you need the image in front of you until your well enough to do it free hand. The only thing I would suggest leveling the cake by cutting the rounded portion off after it cools from the oven. It would have made it look a bit more professional :o)

I think it turned out great! I have a tough time with scrolls too, I have to have an image in front of me, practice it first and then pipe it on the cake :D
