Gone with the Wind is a 1939 American drama romance film adapted from Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel of the same name and directed by Victor Fleming (Fleming replaced George Cukor). The epic film, set in the American South in and around the time of the Civil War, stars Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, and Olivia de Havilland, and tells a story of the Civil War and its aftermath from a white Southern viewpoint.

It received ten Academy Awards, a record that stood for twenty years. In the American Film Institute's inaugural Top 100 American Films of All Time list of 1998, it was ranked number four; although in the 2007 10th Anniversary edition of that list, it was dropped two places, to number six. In June 2008, AFI revealed its 10 top 10 — the best ten films in ten American film genres—after polling over 1,500 persons from the creative community. Gone with the Wind was acknowledged as the fourth best film in the Epic genre. It has sold more tickets in the U.S. than any other film in history, and is considered a prototype of a Hollywood blockbuster. Today, it is considered one of the greatest and most popular films of all time and one of the most enduring symbols of the golden age of Hollywood. When adjusted for inflation, Gone with the Wind remains the highest grossing film of all time in North America and the UK. It is known as the world's first film in colour throughout.

  • Why isn't film this good anymore?

  • @pearleaves

Believe it or not, 35mm film has a better definition than many modern HD cameras, and it's been in use since the beginning of cinema.

  • all time classic when cinema is consist of great script acting and direction and without so called special effects - to-days movie are mostly garbage.

  • excellente bande -annonce!

  • I want it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Warner Bros. has astonished me with the care they've taken with their masterpieces.I just bought this and North by Northwest on Blu-Ray,and they look immaculate on my 46" LED tv.Better than most of my contemporary releases on Blu-ray.

I'm 27,and I've been a fan of this movie since I was a kid.I've owned it on VHS,LD,DVD and now Blu-Ray...and obviously, the Blu-ray beats the others by a mile.It surprises how much the different formats differ in quality, and each time you think this is the best.

  • I bought that movie, I saw it....it made me look at how Blacks were, back in those days. I'm glad they're no longer like that today

this film was where those famous lines came from

  • @pearleaves Most today's movies are still shoot in 35mm. The difference is in the way to capture colors. For this movie, three different films were required to capture the green, the red and the blue. Today's movies are shoot on only one film that can capture three colors.
