  • Fitting a 5 speed gearbox gave greater range in the gears as there is a big jump between 3rd & 4th on a 4 speed .... wont boost the engine power though ... have you tried getting out and pushing?!!

  • don't mean to throw a spanner in the works but we went around France in our 1.6Td T25 and we got about 30-35MPG on long runs. Our's has a high top and we cruised at 80KPH most of the time as that's what the engine responded to best.

I'd lower and harden the suspension a tad and maybe upgrade the brakes but aside from that, all's okay. Any more trips planned?

  • Have done Europe a few times now so looking at heading up to the Lake District next year?

Would really like to take the van to Spain and on to Tarifa but its a hellish long way .... who knows one day maybe?

  • Got my t25 which is also 1.6 non turbo diesal - and its struggles on High Peak Hills! in Derbyshire, where I live. Great downhill though! lol

  • Hey thats great well done....the old 1.6 n/a diesel is much maligned for being underpowered but you cant argue with 3 trips to Italy at 33 mpg! Just got back from the most recent trip yesterday after visiting Germany, Austria France and of course .... Italy! .... just remember the longer it take sto get there .. the more time you have to enjoy your bus!. For info my top speed on the trip was 80mph (downhill) average moving speed according to GPS was 51mph.

  • cool vid - getting t25 for first time soon

    inspiring :)

  • Glad you like it ... as it happens I just got back today after repeating the trip with the family,(albeit not over that mountain range!) we visited Germany, Italy, Austria & France ... the old bus never missed a beat over the two thousand miles ... highly reccommend one.

  • Still I think there must be ways to give the engine a bit of a boost? You had 5th gear fitted on yours right? Mine is struggling on some derbyshire at present lol

  • Here are some rough calculations for importing from Germany. Return flights upto £150 each(if you don't like the van you walk away).EU Insurance and plates £150.Fuel £200.Ferry £100.MoT £50.DVLA £55.Tax £100 6mths. Insurance £400?. All that changes when you can do it for £350 as a dealer.

  • No probs ... for what its worth the guy who used to look after my bus reckons buying from germany is the thing to do (if you dont mind a left hooker) he reckons you can save 50 percent? I look forward to seeing your bus vids on You Tube in due course!!
