This is about the last half of the field heading downstream past our place, just downstream from "The Point" at Ngaruawahia.

A short interlude is followed by the first of the boats heading back upstream from Taupiri, three or four miles downstream.

The pinnacle event of the weekend for New Zealands best racers
Race start: 1:00 pm
This event is the premier event of the weekend. Held on the Sunday
afternoon this race provides spectator viewing for over three hours. The
race starts at Cambridge with a down river leg to Taupiri and return to the
finish line at Grantham Street.
