I read bits about the Wicca religion and it's quite interesting but isn't it better to worship the nature, the universe and all it's glories (which are so many that we haven't the lifespan to be dazzled by them) than any kind of religion? Because if you make God by reason for yourself or decide there isn't any, you are free from such dangers of indoctrination. Any doctrine has some dogma not based on a rational basis and it's to some extent potentially dangerous.
I think a lot of people have a slight misconception about wicca. Though it's true we have a "god" but for each wiccan the term "god" is very vast. To me "god/ goddes" is everything in nature. I see "god" as every living thing according to nature that has both male and female because scientifically everything has male and female in them.
In wicca/paganism you see the world for what it is good or bad and in nature everything changes. There is NO book in wicca. We do not reject evolution in fact it gives us a reason to see the world as it is. In a way u could say wicca is similar to atheism. We don't REALLY have a "dogma" The "god/goddess" is really just the male and female in all living beings. It has no name and it has no legit form.
I think you make a valid point but to say "ANY doctrine ...some extent potentially dangerous." for conversation's sake I have to ask you=O. What about religions that ARE based on rational thought? Remember there are MANY more religions that aren't like the big three. I think if you look at those they tend to be more peaceful as well seeing the world as it is. I think when we use words like ANY then it can be dangerous. Cause unknowingly you make someone "a threat" without really 100% knowing=O.
I said to some extent. You will probably agree that some religions (like Islam or orthodox versions of Christianity) can be really dangerous (hope no Muslim appears with threats of blowing me up) and some are dangerous to a very little extent - like Buddhism or your Wicca. It's not that offensive. I respect the teachings of the two latter but any doctrine, when treated too seriously, can be dangerous.
Ah, and what you wrote about Wicca genuinely makes me think about choosing this religion.. Well, if I was forced to choose any I would probably go with something like that.
It's a pity that religions like Buddhism or Wicca don't have much influence around the world, especially in America and Europe. People could benefit from their teachings even if they didn't choose to be believers in them.
I agree. I've been a wiccan for about 6 years. I didn't learn about the world and science till (believe it or not 7th grade). Once i learned about the universe, evolution it made more sense to me. Even as a young child the thought of "being someones sheep" as a saying in the bible goes, i hated that thought. I think the world would also benefit more I think the problem of the big three is as Richard Dawkins said, "The earth is beautiful you just need to stop and look at it."
About this sheep.. Yes, it's kind of, at least subliminally, telling people to be meek and weak. Being meek and weak is mostly harmful to the user not the outside world. Worse if you have religious people strong in tongue and will but weak in the head. Well, it's usually like that. In some 99% percent of cases the people who have most zeal are the most agressive. Believers who are less orthodox are usually also more careful and good-natured..
