DESCRIPTION:This IT-65 Geiger counter (with an internal ionisation chamber) was used in the CSLA from 1968 onwards and was finally declassified in 2006, as the last calibration date on mine says so.

It was used to detect beta and gamma ionizing radiation from 0.05mR/h to 500mR/h using the Geiger-Muller tube inside the probe, or hard gamma radiation at intervals 0.05R/h up to 500R/h with an ionisation chamber inside. Two 1.5V D cells are used to power the machine, there's also a special cable to power it from 12 or 24V sources (i.e. cars).

The probe has a sliding shield which allows to detect both beta and gamma radiation, or gamma only. If this shield would be completely unscrewed, the meter can be also used to detect alpha particles, too, since the Geiger tube used in this counter has a mica window.

In this video I'm testing the rig on a small piece of uraninite (pitchblende).

  • it is a Yugoslavian geiger counter (DR-M3) produced by Rudi Čajavec in Banja Luka, Bosnia

  • @fuuturist Howdy, taken a peek inside and found Czechoslovak parts (TESLA brand), so I believe these meters were originally made in Czechoslovakia and then exported to other socalist countries, i.e. named DR-M3 in Yugo.
