Boat Fire Extends To A House, Fire Through The Roof

A neighbor looking out his window sees a boat burning in the backyard and calls 911, within seconds he said the house was on fire. The Battalion Chief noted a storng odor of an accelerant in the rear of the building. GFD Engine 12 was first on scene and reported a working fire, Engine 4 brought in the hydrant. Crews made an aggressive attack and started searches asap due to the fact it was unknown weather the house was occupied or not. Thankfully nobody was in the house and none of the firefighters were injured at the scene.

The air horns were more than likely the signal to charge the hydrant. we dont all have radio's in Gary...we rely on airhorns...our evac blasts are very noticeable and long.......

Now were the blast we hear in the beginning an evac blast? If so why did they ignore and go in? Or is it that we just missed the ok to enter??? I never saw a saftey officer walk thru either? Nice vid good job

Shame they had to resort to burning everything. Hopefully it was arson and not insurance fraud....
