Michigan Stadium - Old Press Box

Looking from the third floor of the press box off the elevator and into booth 11, the Michigan Football radio broadcast booth a half hour before the stadium opened to the public..

The 2009 Football season saw the end of an era. Michigan Stadium's second press box, which was built and opened for the 1956 football season, became outdated and cramped for the number of people it needed to serve.

The stadium expansion of 2008, 2009 and 2010, includes a new press box and indoor suites on the west side and new outdoor and indoor club seating and suites on the east side. The work of removing all salvageable materials of the old press box began immediately following Michigan's final home game of the 2009 season. The press box was then torn down the final week of December, 2009. The footprint of the old press box will be rebuilt with chair back seats. All work relating to the construction of the east side and west side structures, including the area of the west side structure serving as the new press box, will be completed in time for the start of the 2010 football season.

This video is to serve as a historical record of the 1950's-era Michigan Stadium press box, of its interior and vantage point overlooking Michigan Stadium.

This was my final time in the Michigan Stadium Press Box and I am grateful to have had the opportunities to be a part of this historic structure. The voices of Bo Schembechler, Bob Ufer, and the many others who worked and watched the many games from within the old press box will still be heard above Michigan Stadium.
