This is a REALLY brief and general makeup lesson. I'm not claiming to know it all. This was my interpretation of 1920's makeup after doing a lot of research regarding period fashion, hair, nails, and makeup. I went to a Speakeasy and a lot of people commented that they had trouble doing the makeup. Hope this helps!

EYES:

Accentuate the inner lid, rather than the outer lid like we do today. The idea is to look like a damsel in distress. The most rudimentary way to do this is connect imaginary dots at the inner corner of your eye, the outer corner of your eye, and right underneath the inner part of your eyebrow. Fill in your triangle with eyeshadow and BLEND to avoid harsh lines.

EYEBROWS:

Keep them thin, slightly downturned, and STRAIGHT!

LIPS:

Draw inspiration from actress Clara Bow. The idea is to make your lips look like they're pouting or puckering up when they're relaxed. Emphasize the peaks of your Cupid's Bow and draw your lower lip line below your natural lip line, so that it appears fuller. Keep your overall [horizontal] lip width NARROWER than your natural lips. You'll likely need to mute out the corners of your lips with concealer or foundation. I like to use a small, flat brush to trace my drawn lip shape with concealer. Not only does it mute out the corners of my lips, but it keeps my lines crisp and my lipstick from feathering.

CHEEKS:

Small circles on the apples of the cheeks! Do not blend it back to your hairline, but DO blend the edges of your circles!

  • My grandma and grandpa's favorite jive song was "In the Mood". People would put money in the jukebox and turn it on just to watch them dance! They were really good.

  • it would have been great if you had showed how to apply the make up. I mean, start with a clean face and apply make up step by step, instead of always showing the final product.

  • You should do a tutorial showing how you did your makeup because yours looks the best out of anybody else's i have seen and i have been looking for a tutorial on a real 1920's look for the longest time :/ It would be awesome if you did that.

  • When you said "Draw your inspiration from Clara Bow" I DIED. The reason that I was looking for a 1920's makeup tutorial is because I look JUST LIKE HER. It's creepy. I wanted to see if it would be even creepier to do my makeup like her as well. :P I seriously believe I was her in my past life...

  • Thank you so much for your tutorial... I LOVED it!!!

  • Wow! You did really great, with the effects and everything! I'll have to thumbs up your video!
