Another fun activity in the Knik, where you "can do anything you can't do anywhere else." Who pays for fixing the damage?

  • i was curious. i can't think of another easy

place to launch an airboat. Except maybe at the main highway bridge.

  • The main highway bridge seems logical, especially since "Rambo Rest Stop" there has been cleaned up there before that scene moved to the Old Bridge area. Also, I know several people living along Knik River Road who would be happy with less emissions from boats that are running by their homes rather than getting warmed up starting their trip by the old bridge. DNR was made aware of that issue during KRPUA public comment period but ignored it.

  • speaking of Palmer Rescue, do you know where those Boy Scouts were rescued from?

i'm curious to know if they used the east

side Knik access, where the fence was.

    thx

  • I don't know, but according to the local paper, "The Frontiersman," the incident took place west (downstream) of the bridge. I tried to include the link but it seems YouTube doesn't allow it to be sent.

  • i just bought a house next to the airport.

And i'm really sick of all the noise.-lol

tax payers pay for the damage. We also

have pay for the police services for Butte.

Palmer police could have raised some money, by giving you a tresspassing ticket.

The bridge is clearly marked. Unlike the trails next to the highway. Any other highway in Mat-Su, you can ride next to the road. Most people aren't aware

    that's a non-motorized path.

  • No one that I know of complained about the Butte Airmen's strip. But then again, I wouldn't really know because the neighborhood around the airstrip has been there since the 1940s and 1950s.

  • Aknmopar: Maybe its the boulders you remember having seen last year where DOT had blocked motor and vandals access to the old bridge when people ripped off timber supports and steel.

Good for you, "treading lightly," just the kind of folks we welcome to share in the beauty of the Knik.

  • I was going to cross that bridge last summer, and there were signs. But you're

correct, with all the lawlessness out there,

    someone probably tore them down.

    I'm actually a mellow, family atv'er. We

never tear up trails, or leave trash.

Sorry just seems like everybody picking on Knik these days.

  • aknmopar: I don't think you are familiar with this area. There are no "No Trespassing" signs on either end of the Old Knik River Bridge. (Have pix). This bridge has been used forever by walkers, bikers and horses to get across the river to/from Knik River Rd. Butte is not in the City of Palmer jurisdiction. Laws are enforced by AST. Property taxes are paid to MSB. On top of that, we pay Butte service area fees for fire department and rescues.

  • To Alaska Department of Transportation:

Thank you for marshaling the manpower, equipment and the big rocks to fix the damage to the embankment, having prevented more damage to the road bed and guard rail foundations.
