Firing the kiln AND filming it all does present some challenges, on one's own...some action here ,& smoke in my eyes ..catch the flavour of raku.

  • Where did you use to live?

  • @samuelfaro Castellon province - Vall d'alba 12194

  • What part of Spain do you live in?

  • @samuelfaro I do not live in Spain now since more than a year. Check out my latest clips ! SL

  • Simon, you are my favorite potter, can you sahre with me how you made yous small kiln where you fired those pots, it look like a can that had been cut in half and had clay lining in it? regards Ningsih Turner

  • Hi Ningsih - The kiln is made from an old oil can or similar can.Lined with ceramic fibre. This is glued to the can with a refractory cement or glue. Yes of course it is cut in the middle. You use a simple gas burner to fire the raku pieces.- SL

  • Hi Simon im relatively new to pottery, i would like to try raku, what the firing cycle for bisque, and what the firing cycle for glazing hope i aint cheeky asking this

  • Is that tea cup ok to drink out of? I thought raku was just for show not function from what ive heard please enlighten me because if its ok to drink out of i will start doing them myself :D

  • Oh ok, i love your videos. I'm just a beginner. do you ever teach anyone, and where are you now?

  • neat stuff man! I gotta try some pottery sometime--my granddaddy was a potter and my grandmother did the slip designs and made animal sculptures---her owls really sold quite well--ha!

  • LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! I heard you refer to the one you showed to the camera as a 'tea bowl.' I have always been told that anything fired with raku was not functional. When you refer to it as a tea bowl, is that a reference to only the shape? Or is it actually functional? I LOVE raku, but also have a thing for functional. Is it possible to have both?
