Home made, vertical (magnetic-top suspended / attraction poles) My original intention was simply to build a compass. However, in the particular environment; It would not "compass." It "Motored" on it's own in one direction until it would fail from the imbalance of the "armature" property it inherited. The suspended feature would loose it's attribute to hold the "armature" affect from rapid movement. I discovered about two weeks later, I had a jar filled with video tape and various little magnets, on a shelf about two feet away. Accidental circumstance happened by doing the usual "setup" that day and I reached for that jar as I was cleaning the area. The "compass" failed immediately. From there, I would simply "set" he "compass" stable and sit the jar back on the shelf. I
The "compass" would begin to rotate. When it approached failing, I would remove the jar. I simply felt it was noteworthy that the compass would rotate without "encouragemental" movement by the jar; but simple, stationary presense of the jar would place effect upon the "compass" to rotate in one direction on it's own.

  • you did not show under the table

  • Good point mytubedude532! Gees... However; see "more info" ... There was a jar of magnets & video tape I discovered about 2 weeks later... Thank you to remind of those things and for stopping by to comment! Kind regards...

  • i had the same theory dude great minds think alike

  • ...ahhh well with all respects; please don't place my mind anywhere (There's a huge vacuum where I think my mind is suppose to be!?) Best regards to your endeavors.

  • Would it be possible to provide further footage of sustained rotation, with the camera panning *much* further back?

This would better demonstrate that no other external magnetic influence is being applied to the rotating arm - particularly as it is seen to stall and then "re-start".

  • Thank you to ask of such a thing. Thing is; now, I don't even live there nor do I have any of those "motors" any more. It makes perfect sense what you ask too! I wish I had thought about it further at the time. It just didn't dawn on me to exploit the "jar of tape & magnets" coz it simply sat there. I just thought it noteworthy that the "compass" would not "compass" yet would turn without any electrical influence.Considering "panning back" I took the jar out of range so it wouldn't fail.

  • Please read: "About this video" (concerning the environment) Thank you to coin the phrase; "Unstable Situation"

  • Simple as it looks...just a yogurt lid, coathanger, attraction poles for the suspended top, sticks & glue. Finally about two weeks later I moved a Jar (filled with magnets and stuffed with video tape) and discovered it was the cause effecting the "compass" The jar was about two feet away on a shelf. The compass would gain momentum on it's own until it would fail from it's crude imbalance. The jar of tape and various magnets was stationary.

  • how did you build it?

  • So how exactly did you produce this what I call unstable situation?
