  • @Rik4100 for ppl who think they know, the cone around the plane does NOT mean it has passed the sound barrier, it means it's approaching it

  • @GagneCarter1217 basically water vapour in the air is condensing around the plane as it approaches the sound barrier

  • @Xypher911 Did you hear it kinda fade into the sound? Well when it hits the sound barrier, it won't be a fade, it will be a sonic boom which is extremely loud. This in an airshow though, so they are not allowed to fly over the speed of sound.

  • @Xypher911 you would be deaf

  • @GagneCarter1217 The cone, known as the Prandtl Glauert singularity, is caused by extreme pressure changes around the aircraft. The air temp lowers due to the pressure change and condensation appears.

  • @Xypher911 The first giveaway is that you won't hear it until it's passed you. The second is the sonic boom.

  • You can hear people go oh! They think the plane is failing.

  • @warderseeker So how do we know if it breaks the sound barrier? Just being curious.

  • @GagneCarter1217 When an aircraft approaches the sound barrier, certain parts of it go supersonic before others. This gives rise to what is known as a transonic shockwave, which gives rise to the Mach cone as it forms on the aircraft above. Once it is stable - the whole aircraft is supersonic.

  • @warderseeker Actually it means the aircraft is transonic, meaning only parts of it break the sound barrier. Without a transonic shockwave, this Mach cone will not form.

  • Hey god, we got a glitcher over here!
