GLEN FALLS, WV -- At 22:02 hours on Monday December 8th, Company 13 (Summit Park VFD), Engine 71 (Nutter Fort VFD), and Engine 121 (Stonewood VFD) were alerted for a Structure Fire on Lower Jack Run Road in Glen Falls. E71 (w/4-AC Richards) hit the street seconds later followed by Tanker 7 (w/2-FF McCray). Engine 71 was the first arriving unit and advised HC911 of a fully involved 2-story structure. Crews then stretched an 1 ¾ cross lay off of 71 and began a surround and drown attack. SPVFD E131 and STVFD E121 then arrived on scene and began to stretch a 2nd 1 ¾ cross lay off of 71 while E131 stretched yet another 1 ¾ cross lay and hooked into Tanker 7 with a 2 ½ supply line. Command 13 then requested that Tanker 3 (Lost Creek VFD) to be added to the assignment and to alert HCEMS to standby at the scene. Tanker 7 supplied 4 loads of water while Tanker 3 supplied 3 loads and both tankers supplied all engines on scene. Even with poor water supply due to a very remote area crews were able to contain the fire within 2 ½ hours and crews returned in service at around 01:00 hours and began cleaning and repacking Engine 71 and Tanker 7. During the incident. Engine 111 (Spelter VFD) transferred to Company 13. Dash cam footage courtesy of Engine 71.

UNITS ON SCENE:
NFFD: E71, T7 (6 personal)
SPVFD: E131, B13
STVFD: E121, U125
LCVFD: T3

  • That was what I was getting at.

  • Yes...did you know that their SOP called for pulling the booster line first then the 1 3/4" then the big lines? In some pictures you can see the lines on the ground stacked in that order. That is one reason they lost their ISO Class 1 rating.

  • @Wonkawillie77 That is exactly what happens and we need to avoid such actions and think ahead of time. If you really want a good idea of why take a close look at the report on the Sofa Super Store fire in Charlotte. We need to learn from our mistakes and not just go on ignoring them.

  • I just took a National Fire Academy course called "Calling The Mayday" and that came up in the discussion about grabbing the 1 3/4' line instead of the big line(s) and as the instructor put it we just do what we do all the time and 99% of the time the 1 3/4' works just fine - it's a form of "muscle memory."

  • So for what possible reason would you not pull off a 2 1/2 for this thing? This is the second video I've seen involving this engine first in on a fully involved or at least well involved structure and pulling 1 3/4 lines. Big fire=Big water. Pull the 2 1/2 and knock the piss out of it. Don't piss on it with small handlines. Perfect application for a blitzfire. Or better yet just deck gun the son of a bitch and be done with!

  • total lost i think

  • yet another where spelter was there
