  • My dad flew Shacks back in the late 60s out of RAF Mawgan in Cornwall.

  • Beautifully shot piece of footage-are you a professional cameraman? And what a sound!

  • marvellous piece of footage

  • A really great bit of film, which really takes me back to when I was a kid when my Dad used to take me up to our local airfield to watch these take off during the Cold War; Several would fly in, whilst the next shift was taking off, and as these were our first line in early warning this rota system meant that there were Shackletons constantly in the air during this era.

  • airborne early warning and maritime reconisonce(SPELLIN)aircft

  • No - it was then an airborne radar - AEW, Airborne Early Warning.

  • is the shackleton a recon bomber?

  • I wish at these airshows the commentators would put a sock in it. The Griffon always sounds raucous in comparison to the Merlin. But, it was bigger and more powerful. For a long period it must have been very trying for the aircrews. But, they were made of sterner stuff in those days weren't they?

  • I can remember these things flying over my place in the 60 and 70's going out over the Atlantic on patrol. deafening with a full load of fuel! NNIICCEE!

  • great memory I was in the crowd thanks for refreshing my grey cells
