Keith Moon, of The Who, took animal tranquilizers before a who concert, and collapses during a performance. Scot Halpin, a young drummer, gets to play with The Who on stage.
Moon was later revived
Halpin was commended for his performance, but not offered a permanent role in the band.

@MrNategriffin IMHO you've got it a bit off. 1 of all time has to be Ginger Baker as he was incredible and got the entire drum solo style going with his 20 minute solos with Cream. Next, Bonham probably. But there is Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Deep Purple and so many others before you even exit the 60s. I would put Keith Moon in the top ten though.

I worked at so many Cow Palace shows. For some reason, it was always a rowdy venue. Industrial district.... Ozzy had to flee the stage due to fans throwing bottles and such. Looks like the vibe of the place got ol' Keith crazy. Looked like one of us wrestling with a typical out of control fan. Ironic to see a band member become like unto a bad fan!

that's a dream come true for any amateur musician. i daydream about that. if john entwhistle went down."can anybody play the bass?" i don't know if would have had the balls. i would have been too messed up anyway. top three rock drummers in no particular order 1) keith moon 2) jon bonham. who's three?
