A poverty line drawn just this side of the funeral pyre. God that's an awesome metaphor. Too bad it's relating a very sad and disturbing reality.

@cityfan22 Which debate are you talking about? if it's the one I believe, with that female host, then I've watched it too...and Tharoor made no such claim in it.

tell me how many people are fed properly in India?..........it is still a land of peverty if we compare with any nation on earth.... i am Indian and i feel very sorry for the sad state of affairs in India with all those scandals. I wish my country to be the best in the world.

@cityfan22 Being an Indian, I can relate to Tharoor. We've always been compromising. You would be too if you had the diverse native population like India, BUT idealogically Hitchens is right, yes. Realistically, Tharoor. For now, at least.

@cityfan22 Hmm I agree. I am completely on Hitchen's side on this issue...

India is the best country and I live in America right now
@PunjabiBall3r No country is 'best' or 'worst'. You have every right to be patriotic (as am I) but think about it. A country can be best in only a number of dimensions (not all).
