"Across the Universe" (The Beatles)
Arranged by: Emily Reisman
Soloists: Emily Reisman Counters: Colleen Davis, Caroline Fehr
From Washington University After Dark's annual concert, "A Light from the Darkness", which took place in Graham Chapel at Washington University in St. Louis on January 31, 2009.
After Dark has been singing at Washington University since September 2001 and is known on campus for their sleek black and white attire, rocking arrangements, hip choreography, and (you guessed it) nocturnal melody-making. Recently, they have performed at various venues, including St. Louis University, U. of Illinois, U. of Wisconsin-Madison, U. of Michigan, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and on the nationally syndicated Steve & DC Morning Show. In Oct. 2008, After Dark entered the political spotlight by performing their original song, "I've Got a Crush on Joe Biden & Sarah Palin," live on national television for CBS' The Early Show during coverage of the Vice-Presidential Debate for an estimated 2.9 million viewers.
Their most recent album, Eclipse, received CARA awards for Best Co-Ed Collegiate Song and Best Co-Ed Arrangement. "Mama's Room," was selected for the Voices Only 2007 and the SING IV compilation albums. "Ready For Love" appeared on Voices Only 2008. Eclipse is available for purchase on iTunes or by visiting http://www.acatunes.com/album/386.
This year, the group once again plans to compete in the International Championships of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) and hold their annual concert "A Light from the Darkness." Auditions are held every Fall. For more information, please visit the group's website at:
