1) In push hands, be mindful of your center and your opponants. Do not go head on and do not become lost.

Obsolve yourself of all thoughts of trying to win and let the opponant make the mistake...just keep doing what's correct and let "the Win" happen by itself.

You cannot force a lock onto someone, it must be given to you. When done properly, they almost don't know the lock is upon them until it's too late.

2) Chiu Wai invented this set called Yik So Kuen or "Preserving Life Fist"
It is hung gar movements done at "tai chi" speed. Chiu Wai teaches it to senior citizens and others who don't want to learn traditional hung gar but want some excercise. He is very straight forward with it's origins and usage. He is also adamant about NOT calling it tai chi. My brother and I trained with 40-50 of the senior citizens doing yik so kuen. At the end of the hour long workout, he made them stay in horse stance for 5 minutes. Very few gave up. I was told to disseminate this set to the public.

Despite it's humble origins Yik So is a great set and can be a nice change of pace...especially when you just want to warm-up into a more intense practice. It has a little bit of everything; there are stretching movements and then there are movments designed to kick ass (if you really understand HG i.e.)

Because I study both Hung Gar and Tai Chi...to me, what gives this set value is the relaxed nature and LESS about Hard Power. When you're relaxed you listen more and are able to "Follow" your opponant better. Then you can hit with impunity once they are weak. This concept is not stressed very often in most Hung Schools that I know of.
