Bicycles, motor scooters and motorcycles remain the most popular forms of road transport in Vietnam's cities, towns, and villages although the number of privately-owned automobiles is also on the rise, especially in the larger cities. Public bus operated by private companies is the main long distance travel means for many people. Traffic congestion is a serious problem in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as the cities' roads struggle to cope with the booming numbers of automobiles.

Hanoi (Vietnamese: Hà Nội, Hán Tự: 河内) pronunciation (help·info), estimated population 3,398,889 (2007) [1], is the capital of Vietnam. From 1010 until 1802, it was the political centre of an independent Vietnam with a few brief interruptions. It was eclipsed by Huế during the Nguyen Dynasty as the capital of Vietnam, but served as the capital of French Indochina from 1887 to 1954. From 1954 to 1976, it was the capital of North Vietnam.

  • It makes sense. We walk through shopping malls like this why not do the same in high traffic city areas?

  • damn, now although ha noi's economy is better, the traffic is going down very fast. I am sick of smelling CO and CO2 from buses and cars .

  • @nubeoxinh You're right. I am here now and it has changed quite a lot since my last visit three years ago. I've been saying to my friends that I have noticed more cars and less bikes, but they haven't really noticed, so I'm glad someone else has realised this! Shops and roads are starting to improve too.

  • they should ban the horn....imagine living here and all day it's beep beep beep beep beepl...

  • you know the dude in the orange shit probably got runned the fuck over.

  • no problem, there is lots of white paint on the road - solved!

  • this is so old :O it's only been 3 years and Hanoi's changed so much, the skyline is totally different, and we got rid of shit loads of motorcycles and replace it with another shit loads of cars and i dont think there are more than 3 houses that is painted yellow standing in the same corner anymore

  • two honks means "i'm coming from left"

One honk means "i'm coming from the right". 3 honks means "move right i'm faster". holding the horn 25 seconds means :" Im a truck, not stopping so please move away"

  • Horn is basically useless
