Hey guys I wonder if you can help me. I am looking for a play that appeared on PBS a few years ago. It is about a soilder who has an affiar with a married woman. Also he has one the affection of he commander's older sister who is sickly. Through her obessesive love he realized what love really is. He decided to be with her but she dies later on. It was called Beloved or Lover I can't remember, I had it on tape but I lost it. Please help.

The music and instrumentation itself I think is nothing short of spectacular. My issue is the way the words have been set here. The emphasis is on the wrong syllables of words often. Though this could also be going to the old practice which is more baroque. Even so, that style of vocal writing's not preferable to me, but at least it sounds nice even though I can't understand a word they're saying!

I didn't know they filmed this! I saw his last performance of it at the Met - my first time at the Met, actually. I didn't love the opera, but Domingo was spectacular.

I saw the premiere of this. I didn't really like it, and sadly, I shared many of the critics' opinions. I'm trying to reconsider my opinion by relistening to it. Sometimes, first impressions can be tough.
The style is different, it is true...not an opera in the traditional sense. I found it difficult to like on first impression as well, but it gets better after listening to it several times.
