  • how long will the trap stay closed while digesting a bug

    Plz respond and thank you

  • @jaredclark22 It varies mate.. Depending on the size of the bug and the size of the trap thats eating, anything between 3 days to a week and a bit :)

  • I'm pretty sure that is a sun-dew. A sun-dew is another type of carnivorous plant. I think there is a symbiotic relationship between your VFT and sun-dew. Sun-dew gives off an odor that attracts insects, so your VFT is benefiting. You're lucky that a sun-dew is growing there. :D

  • @setheries Cheers for the confirmation, hope you enjoyed my video, I have now updated the end to let people know what the mysterious plant was.

  • um help me how do i feed it

do i catch the flies or does it do that its self

what if it doesnt catch a fly! :O

  • @PebbleBinder it will catch it's own, and can go without catching any for quite a while, so don't worry, but feeding a woodlouse to it once a week won't hurt.. Thats what I've always done, they love them yummy :)

  • It's weird but it looks just like a sun dew plant which is also carnivorous. It uses those clear water droplets which are in fact sticky to traps insects.

  • @kodyperry13 no. Dont use humus for your plant. Hymus is Compost. It is a fertilizer and a must not for a VFT

  • That was a sundew. Keep it in another pot. And the same thing with your VFT. It has sticky liquid on its hair to trap insects. To care for it take it after about 2-3 weeks and transfer to another pot. Then put in a mixture of peat moss and pearlite and transfer it there. Same amount of sunlight. In winter months do the same thing to hibernate it.

  • You will notice it going dormant the larger traps and leaves will start to die off about now and will be replaced with smaller leaves and traps while they are dormant you dont have to keep there as moist but never let it dry out! when it is dormant stick it on a window sill that gets sunlight dont put them below 40 degrees! and in the summer do not let temp exceed 90 if it does out in shade!

  • It depends on if the plant wants to go dormant.

  • if i plant a venus fly trap from seed in the winteer will it have a dormancy period ??? PLEASE ANSWER!!! =)

  • I am using peat humus for soil if i am using a soil that will kill my plant please tell me!

  • Some of my traps are dying off i think this normal for dormancy but not sure. i am using distilled water for my watering and and they got some rain water last week. I am noticing a baby trap just getting it teeth also. I have another fly trap that has 3 traps and is very small it is not catching any flies and will not close when something is in trap. Im wondering if i should plant all my traps together. Please comment on what i should do!
