This was in the old days before I purchased my Roland FP-4 (please see my more recent videos to see that keyboard in action). I'm trying to get my audio/video sync problems worked out using an unweighted Roland A-37 controller keyboard. Boy am I glad I finally got my FP-4! Anyway, I heard McCoy do a version of this that kills.

Sorry I was moving around so much but I had to lean over to start the backing tracks and my piano bench was in the wrong spot and I kept trying to shift to get myself into proper playing position. I know it's distracting to me, so don't watch, just listen. I wasn't sure if my sync problems were worked out - you can hear my remarks at the end, "I don't think so, but we'll give it a try", and so that's what this is...a try. Also, sorry if it sounds sloppy, but that's what I get for trying to do this on the A-37 instead of a fully weighted keyboard. Band-in-a-Box is providing the backing.

  • @mattis09 Thank you for your comment.

  • Great stuff, McCoy Tyner is one of your favorite players i can tell. You sound really good even on that digital piano!

    Are you playing regularily somewhere?

  • Thanks Chris. Yes McCoy is one of my favorites.

  • Great! I would like to know what are you are doing with your LH.

  • Thanks. I'm not sure which parts you are referring to but I play a lot of voicings using fourths either in the key of the particular chord for that measure or 1/2 step away.

  • he is giving you a lesson by just posting this ;-)

  • beautifully done. Love your playing!

  • let you in on a little secret jqarvue. if you're playing "poinciana" from an artistic point of view you incorporate the upright bass, drums with brushes and take it straight ahead. if you're playing this out at a gig with your local band, might want to groove it this way, contemporary style.

  • Poinciana is one of the first jazz songs I ever heard. The original live recording by Ahmad Jamal is timeless but love the way you grooved it.

  • I own one A37,it is semi weighted, you are right

  • Im looking for a good starter keyboard controller. Would you recommend the A-37? Isn't it "semi" weighted? Is that even important?
