I have the full concert (audio) of the Everlies in October 1971 with several songs by Ike. Must see to encode it digitally some day.

Was that the 12th of October 1971 at the Royal Albert Hall in London? If it was I was there in the audiance, I think its the only time they sung the Rolling Stones song "Honky Tonk Women" and they also did "Sing Me Back Home" the first time I ever heard it. I remember Ike playing "Step it up and go".

No, the concert was recorded in Rotterdam (probably later that month in 71). It also has the Honky Tonk woman and a nice version (opening) of Bowling Green. Also Sing me back home etc are on it. In the end they do a couple of Gospelsongs. Quite nice.I will see what I can do. It is on tape but I will find a way to digitalise it!

You're right, I saw Ike play in London back in 1971, he was a brilliant guitarist.

In love with all of there songs one good thing about country music is that they tell there own stories in every lyrics you hear on the radio, yt or anywhere or what ever. Don't get to hear good music that tells a story these days Iove the Everly Brothers I can relate to most of there songs

@aynatn : Good for Ike! He saw talent in his wonderful sons and did the right things for them! My son is a left-handed guitarist, and plays left-handed, without restringing, just turns the guitar upside-down (like Jimi Hendrix).

But I don't think that was acceptable in those days. It must be difficult enough to sing and play at the same time, the way they do. (This from someone who can't walk and chew gum! LOL!)

From what I've read...their father taught them everything they know musiacally. He taught them to play "righthanded' even though they were left handed because it was easier to tune a guitar and he didn't want them to be called "Lefty". He taught them to keep time and to harmonize. They practiced with him almost every day for their family radio show. After the radio show days were over, he and Margaret got lowpaying jobs & sent money to the boys as they tried to further their career.

This doesn't mean much (if anything) to non-guitarists. However, the guitar that Tommy Cash was holding when introduced and that John played during the song is a D-45S from the Martin Custom Shop. Assuming this show was shot in the early 70s and the guitar was made no later than the mid to late 60s, it is probably made with Brazilian rose wood. The value of this guitar without the provinance is in the 6 figures.
