Wow, of all the valid points you could make about the benifits to living in a western society you choose the funeral? Who gives a fuck if you're dead you're dead! Let me suggest that you are missing the point. The point is not about the dead's appreciation of the funeral---it is about what constitutes proper civilized conduct. It is about whether men should conduct themselves in accordance with reason or with the passions.
