I put a big 13" 1/2 split on and it snuffed it a bit! 10 minutes after I stopped recording It went to high hell! I used to burn about 650 gals of oil. this year I burned about 100. And the house is warmer! This insert would not have been my first chose but it fit into my limited space. The wife also likes it because it still looks like a fire place! The new stoves burn clean using gasification tech. to burn any unburnt gases or particulates.

  • They say if you have an exterer chimney you may need to insulate it to get better draft. I did put in a block off plate at the damper area. I insulated with a good amount of fiberglass insulation. I did buy a 5' stainless flex flue so I would be into the clay liner. The block off plate is a must if you want heat. Very seasoned fire wood is a must! If your wood is over 25% moisture content you will have black glass and low heat output. Check out hearth.com for great info!

  • 2010 will be my third season with this unit still love it! It's actually better now that I have seasoned wood

  • You mention this insert would not have been your first choice, but it fit into your limited space. What would have been your first choice???

  • Did you use the vermon castings flex connector kit? I have a winterwarm insert that I just bought, but I think they are the same.

  • where does the block off plate come in?

  • how long that nice flame is lasting, and how many log to u have put in?

  • nice burn there! I just ordered the Merrimack stove for a good price. It should be here in a few days.

I had a question for you though? did you insulate your flue linner and or use a damper blocking plate? just curious before I do my install.. thanks
