@xheathermichelle Lol I just found a sight that says 28.7 MPH.
-
@bobbyandbecky It actually goes about 32 mph.

I rode it with the lights on once, not on purpose of course..there was just a malfunction with the lighting. It was cool/scary at the same time. Only because this coaster's overheads are actually kinda low and I felt like I was going to hit my head haha!

@paigethalia It definatly would NOT be more fun with the lights on. Disney uses illusions and a lot of tricks in their rides. Truth is Space Mountain isn't any faster than about 15 mph. It uses the darkness and the flashing lights to increase the thrill of the ride. Without it, it would just be another kiddie rollercoaster ride.

I can ride this ride all day with out stopping, this ride is totally my favorite roller coaster in the world!
The TTA is an awesome ride! Definnetely one of the best rides there!

No, you can't see the mechanics or where you are going, which is what makes Space Mountain so unique among coasters. The visuals that you do see are lights, which are pointing at your face and some smoke. It makes for a more hair raising ride.
I think it would be more fun w/ the lights on, but thats just me, I got sick from that ride b/c I couldn't see where I was going so I got motin sickness.
My friend said she rode it once w/ the lights on.
I didn't know there was a backstage thing.

The "backstage thing" is actually the "Tomorrow Land Transit" or "WedWay People Mover" (for the old folks and purists) ride that goes through the Space mountain building briefly. When the lights are off you only see some highlight lighting and hear a lot of screaming.

Not sure. Seemed like a temp shut down, since people were still waiting in line outside. They hadn't completly closed the ride down yet. No trains were running though.
