Soul music is discussed in detail by singer Ray Charles, who says that because of the isolation, misery, and humiliation suffered by American blacks, they developed much of their own music and dance forms. Singers Mahalia Jackson, Billie Holiday, and Aretha Franklin cry out their souls to make a rich contribution to American music. 28 minutes, color and b/w.
