Have You Seen Paddy Reilly ?

Part of the four 1 minute films made back in the early 1990s Dundalk Co Louth. What's interesting about this one is the totally improvised nature of all of the friendly contributions, including the opening and succinctly frank line from the mobile Garda: 'NO !" * That just couldn't happen today, without filling out triplicate forms and jumping through hoops and script vetting to ensure pre agreed permission from the Garda Press Bureau. I just went up to him and asked, is it all right if we film you while I ask you a question ?

We were running around with a camera the size of a large cereal box, trying to set up some sort of arty shots when the silver car actually did pull up, word had spread "in the Town" that we were making some films about looking for Paddy Reilly & the only question we seemed to want answered was: Have you seen Paddy Reilly. Time seems simpler then and everyone without exception was friendly and up for the craic - that was of course before Youtube, CCTV and ubiquitous video changed people's attitudes to some degree.
